Sigdo Koppers opens a new Magotteaux plant in Thailand, an investment of US$ 40 million

With the presence of top Sigdo Koppers executives, today opened in Saraburi, Thailand, a new casting plant belonging to its subsidiary Magotteaux, a leading producer of high chromium grinding balls and castings. The construction of this plant meant a total investment of US$ 40 million and will allow the company to meet the strong demand in Australia and Asia for these products.

The new plant estimates a production of 4,500 tons of castings in its first stage, estimated to reach 9000 tons by 2014.

"In Thailand we already had a plant, and with the increase in capacity that this new plant will give us we will increase our presence in the Asian market," said CEO of Sigdo Koppers, Juan Eduardo Errázuriz.

TheMagotteaux investment plan in Thailand is above US $ 90 million, since apart form this new plant, Magotteaux is expected to invest an additional $ 50 million in a new high chromium grinding balls factory. Both projects will allow Sigdo Koppers to reach a production capacity of 400,000 tons of grinding balls and 74,000 of castings.

With the combined production of both plants, Sigdo Koppers will continue to meet the demand for its products from mining operations worldwide, which is part of Sigdo Koppers’ strategic objective,which is to increase its participation in the area of services to mining and industry, establishing itself as a leading provider of services and products to mining and industry. In this sense, the group has already taken important steps, both in Chile and in the region, one of which is the construction of this new plant.

In 2011, Sigdo Koppers bought the Belgian company Magotteaux for a total of US$ 790 million, becoming an international leader in services to mining and industry and marking a milestone in the strategic definition of the company.

Magotteaux is a global company, world leader in the production and sale of high chromium grinding balls used in the milling processes of the mining and cement industries.

The company owns 14 production plants in 11 countries and 38 commercial offices in 24 countries. The main Magotteaux production plants are in Belgium, Brazil, USA, Canada and Thailand.
