Sigdo Koppers starts selling in Chile KENWORTH and DAF trucks

Sigdo Koppers, through its subsidiary SK Comercial, signed an agreement with the American company Paccar Inc. - third largest manufacturer of heavy trucks in the world-, to start selling in Chile its well known brands Kenworth and DAF. With this, both brands will be distributed in the country through SKC Transporte, new subsidiary of SK Comercial.&nbsp

Sigdo Koppers, through its subsidiary SK Comercial, signed an agreement with the American company Paccar Inc. - third largest manufacturer of heavy trucks in the world-, to start selling in Chile its well known brands Kenworth and DAF. With this, both brands will be distributed in the country through SKC Transporte, new subsidiary of SK Comercial.

The agreement, which represents an investment of about US $ 10 million, is aligned with Sigdo Koppers’ strategy of strengthening its leadershipas a global provider of services for mining and industry. The official launch of this new line of trucks will be held at the Transport Fair to be held between the 14th and 18th of March in Espacio Riesco.

The general manager of SK Comercial, Álvaro Santa Cruz, noted that "with this important agreement we incorporate into the market two well known brands of heavy and medium duty trucks, increasing the supply and services to our clients and strengthening the leadership of SK Commercial in the sale and rental of machinery, which in turn strengthens the leadership position of Sigdo Koppers as a service provider for mining and industry.”

 

Paccar Inc., through its commercial brands DAF, Kenworth and Peterbilt, is the third largest manufacturer of medium and heavy transport trucks in the world, leading in the US and Europe. The company operates worldwide and has production facilities in the US, Mexico, Canada, UK, Holland, Belgium and Australia.

SK Comercial, through its new subsidiary SKC Transporte, expects to generate sales of nearly US$ 40 million during the first year. The brands Kenworth and DAF will be available in Santiago, Antofagasta, Copiapó, Concepción and Temuco, added to the spare parts distribution center which is currently in Chile and is unique in Latin America.

Both Kenworth and DAF are leading brands worldwide. As of September 2011, DAF registered a market share in the segment of trucks over 15 tons of 15.2% in Europe. Meanwhile, Kenworth and Peterbilt showed a participation of 28% in Class 8 trucks in the US and Canada.

In Latin America, Kenworth has a 40% market share in Colombia, and over 50% in Mexico.

Paccar Inc. is led by Mark Piggott, who is part of the Piggott family, owners of the company for 100 years and experienced in manufacturing and selling high quality trucks and present worldwide. Its main office is located in Seattle, United States. The company has more than 1,800 points of sale all over the world and distributes its products to more than 100 countries. Currently, Paccar Inc. is building a new manufacturing plant in Brazil.
