Innovation is a central axis in the strategy of Sigdo Koppers, which has proposed to promote its development in each of its subsidiaries, in order to provide clients with solutions of excellence and ensure the safety of collaborators, operational efficiency and company competitiveness. During 2023, the development of innovative products, services and processes continued to be a priority focus and various initiatives were implemented in the areas of operational safety, digitalization and the environment, among other aspects.

SAP ARIBA: Sigdo Koppers began the implementation of the SAP Ariba platform in the companies of the Sigdo Koppers Group in 2023 in order to simplify, achieve greater efficiency and transparency in transactions with suppliers. The world-class system will be used to register suppliers, submit purchase orders, access product and service catalogs, and manage invoice tracking, among other functionalities.

One of its main achievements, led by its Special Maneuvers Unit (UME), has been the work with its Robot Eva, which has proven very useful for carrying out analysis in the field, both in visits to construction sites, evaluation of brownfields projects, as well as in exploration in damaged areas with the aim of measuring damage and risks, without the need to expose people to these maneuvers. Thanks to its advanced video and sensor technology, an autonomy of 5 hours and a range of up to 80 meters, the Eva Robot performs a complete 3D image scan, providing precise data for construction work and measuring progress in projects.

PVSA is developing a new protection for the band between the dock slab and the ship while operations are carried out, with the aim of protecting the area from an eventual fall of material. Between 10-14 knots, a sail effect is caused in the current mantlet system, which causes the operation to stop, due to the risks of said condition. The project seeks to ensure that the new protection can be installed remotely and can adapt to the natural movements of the unloading vessel.

Track and Trace Platform: platform that allows the capture of online information on trains in circulation, delivering, among other data in real time, their location, monitoring and optimization of fuel use, vital signs of locomotives and detection of equipment anomalies. In addition, this platform works as a driving assistant, generating speed alerts, traffic zones with operational restrictions, among others.

Prillex Zero: The Enaex facility in Cachimayo in Peru is one of the first ammonium nitrate plants to operate with renewable energy, hydrogen and clean ammonia. In November 2023, the milestone of producing the first tons of carbon-neutral ammonium nitrate was met.

Industry 4.0: Magotteaux began the implementation of 3 Proofs of Concept (PoC) for hybrid autonomous manufacturing in 2 of its plants: Thailand and Mexico. Both PoCs represent the initial steps to automate and digitize the information flow of your assets and relate it to a part of your production processes, in order to achieve a higher level of visibility in the production itself. Through PoC, Magotteaux will test next-generation technologies, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and manufacturing execution system (MES).

SKC carries out active management in the search for knowledge and trends in research, development and innovation, through the factories it represents, such as Volvo, Toyota, CNH, Paccar, partners such as SK Godelius, Google, PMG, and study centers, among them, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, University of Chile and University of Los Andes.

Astara Platform: During 2023, progress was made in the implementation of the Astara Platform digital ecosystem, both internally (B2B) in all the brands it represents, and with part of the dealer network (B2C). The scope of this project implies that 100% of the dealer network works on Salesforce to serve end customers. Progress has also been made in the development of capabilities to convert Astara Latam into a “Data Driven” company that makes decisions based on data, delivering operational, commercial, and executive reports and reports, not only for brands and dealers, but even for the manufacturers of the brands that are distributed.
